Soldier Boy begins with the story of Ricky Richard Anwar, who was abducted in 1969 at the age of fourteen by Uganda’s decades-old civil war with Joseph Connie’s rebel army. Ricky is trained, armed, and forced to fight against their brutal kidnappers as well as government soldiers, but he never stops dreaming of escaping.
The story continues twenty years later, with a fictional character named Samuel, representing thousands of child soldiers who eventually helped rehabilitate Ricky as the founder of the internationally acclaimed Friends of Orphans charity.
Working closely with Ricky himself, first author Kelly Hutton wrote a publishing book about a child’s unwavering consciousness and unwavering courage in the face of unforgettable horrors.
