This is one of those books where the narrative is so painful at times that I had to stop for a while, but I had to accelerate up and start over because I could not bear not knowing what was going to be. The jotting is amazing. The depth of this author’s perception of her characters and how she adroitly strips her souls, especially Jude, is far beyond ordinary. The liar was so important, so painful, and so excruciatingly sad, but ever the emotional prostration paid off. Hanna Yanagihara’s characters show us that being mortal is our connections to each other maters, fathers, siblings, musketeers, people who watch about others. I’d be surprised if this was not my fave of the time. I know this is just March, but books like this do not appear veritably frequently. There’s no mistrustfulness that this book is veritably well written and contains the crudest and most honest prose I’ve ever had the pleasure or mischance to read, but it’s a veritably long character study-over 700 runners of misery, substance abuse, tone- detriment, sexual and cerebral abuse (and its consequences), with veritably little of that” light” promised in the propaganda. There’s a section of this book called”The Happy Times”and noway has a title been more deceiving, if you ask me. But let me give you an idea of what this book is about first. It begins with four youthful musketeers who move to New York, poor and doubtful of themselves, and try to make their way. The characterization of JB, Malcolm, Willem and Jude is, to put it bluntly, awful. They’re similar complex and well- trained individualities with their own heartstrings, expedients, and fears.
