Book Review:
Games at Twilight and Other Stories by Indian novelist Anita Desai may be a collection of 1978 fiction. Games at Twilight tells the story of Ravi, a boy who doesn’t understand his family and feels neglected. The main theme of childhood and its many themes is the focus of the story, although innocence, frustration, and thus the ups and downs of this troubled life are also examined throughout the story.
It’s a group of kids looking for hidden games. The story centers on a boy named Ravi, who hid in a closet next to an old garage, but “felt very overwhelmed” there, so he decided to go to the garage and hide. He does it just in time when the boy who was chosen as “it” comes around the corner. Once there, “he said, trembling, then relaxed, complacent.” Eventually, the joy of imagining winning the game overwhelmed him and he dreamed of finding everyone else and coming out of the closet and rejoicing in his victory. Such a victory was foreign; “I never knew this feeling.” He goes to sleep and realizes too late that he is calm outside and forgets that he has to go to the base to win. She runs to the base in shock and touches it, but the kids are already playing a different game. He was devastated, and “overwhelmed by the hatred of forgetting, how could he face? He felt his heart become heavy and anxiously felt a pain inside him. He lay full length on the wet grass, already crushed on his face. No. “.. Crying, silent in a horrible feeling of her insignificance.”
