Book Description :::::….

The novel begins at a kindly slow pace, but once it hits its pace it’s practically Dostoevsky in its depths. Endo, a Japanese Unqualified, uses the story of two Jesuit preachers in hunt of an apostate Jesuit to explore the contents of devotion, situation, religious colonialism, faith, sin, courage, suffering, martyrdom,etc., particularly when God is” silent.” Examine Christianity and Christianity and how they were accommodated to Japan and accepted and disapproved by the East. Overall it was presumably4.5 stars for me. It must belong to the block, along with other great religious myths (The Sisters Karamazov, The Idiot, Les Misérables, The Razor’s Edge,etc.). I suppose some of the power of this novel lies beyond the textbook. I do not want to say supernatural or stupid or commodity like that. I just want to say that the prose (or at least Johnston’s endo restatement) of this novel was good, hard. But after reading the book it bites you. It’s stretched. It works for you for days after perusing. I’m still visited by the ocean, the darkness, and the apparent silence.
