International Human Resource Management (IHRM) is slowly emerging as an academic research field. However, there is a lack of case study material documenting the experiences and documentation of IHRM strategies, and particularly those of organizations that do not have their own private United States. This paper reviews the current literature on IHRM and reports the results of a recent study of four Australian international organizations: two owned by Australia; One is an Australian subsidiary of a multinational oil company and the fourth is a regional division of a multinational car manufacturer. For data collection, case study methods were used, including structured interviews of personnel managers from each organization, expatriate line managers (including managers currently returning to Australia and foreigners), and spouses. These case studies are analyzed and examined to see how much they contribute to the international literature on human resource management.
