The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic written in a flexible hexameter, traditionally attributed to Homer. In general, it is believed that it was composed around the 8th century BC. In modern Volgate, the epic of the Iliad has 15,693 lines, divided into 24 books; It is a literary combination of Homeric Greek, Ionian Greek, and other dialects. It is usually divided into epic cycles. During the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy by an alliance of Mycenaean Greek kingdoms, describes the struggles and events within weeks of the confrontation between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles. Although the story spans only a few weeks to the last year of the war, the Iliad mentions or hints at many Greek legends about the siege; Previous events, such as the gathering of fighters for the siege, the causes of the war, and associated concerns, began to appear from the beginning. The epic narrative highlights events predicted for the future, such as the impending death of Achilles and the fall of Troy, although the narrative ends before these events occur. However, since these events are more clearly predicted and directed, when it ends, the poem tells a more or less complete story of the Trojan War.
